Welcome Spring
After a rather mild winter, spring is here. Please take the time to do a little exterior clean up so neighborhoods are a welcome sight for one and all.

Cemetery News
The City Council confirmed my recommendation for Brock Randall to be named the sexton of the West Haven City Cemetery. Brock has been busy attending conferences and talking with other sexton to learn more about his new position. He remains our recreation director as well. Staff is working on finalizing plans for secondary water to serve our cemetery.

Law Enforcement
The Sheriff’s department will continue to provide service to our city as currently provided. A front page article in the Standard Examiner quoted another Mayor saying that he and his city were in talks with us about doing something together. That was news to me and I will leave it at that! It is accurate that the Sheriff’s department wants a substantial increase effective July1, 2013. That remains an unresolved matter. They request an answer from us by the end of August. Time is ticking.

The newspaper article mentioned the county was going to reduce our property taxes about $24 on a $200,000 home. However, the county wants to increase our city’s law enforcement payment $550,000 which means about $50 per resident. How is that to be collected? That is the question. As I mentioned last month, I am wrestling with potential solutions along with the city council. I will share information with you as we move forward.

WEST HAVEN SPECIAL SERVICE DISTRICT LATE FEE BILLING CHANGE

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

The West Haven Special Service District will no longer be assessing a $25.00 late fee. The Board has adopted the following new late fee policy. If you have a $25.00 late fee that was assessed on or after January 1, 2010 billing, please contact Jamie to have the fee removed. 801-731-5819

THE NEW LATE FEE ASSESSMENT-DESCRIBED BELOW– WILL NOT BE WAIVED!

 Billing and Collection Procedure for District Utility Services:
· A Bill for services rendered by the District is sent First-Class U.S. Mail to the responsible party, defined for the purpose of this Ordinance as the property owner of record, the first part of each month following the initial month of service.
      (Billings are, then, running one month behind the actual delivery of services.)
· Payment for that Bill is due by the end of the billing month.
· Bills not paid by the 30th of the billing month are considered delinquent and will be assessed a $5.00 late fee.
· A subsequent Bill for ongoing services, as well and any amounts then past due, will be sent the first part of the month following the last billing month and any amounts that remain delinquent from the prior billing will be assessed an additional $5.00 late fee.
· A shut off notice will be sent out the first of the month – the third billing month - on accounts that remain     delinquent. (For example, service for September that was first billed in October and which remains delinquent as of the 1st of January will cause a shut off notice to be sent.)
· Service will be shut off 48 hours after notice is provided.
· Once water has been shut off, customers must pay a “Reconnection Fee” to the culinary water service provider in addition to any additional fees established by the District for reconnection, as follows:
Bona Vista Water Improvement Districtwater users: $35.00 residential and $100.00 commercial;
Taylor/West Weber Water Improvement District—water users: $50.00.
Hooper Water Improvement District—water users: $25.00;
